Steven joined our family in 2020. Like many pet parents, we quickly stopped thinking of him as simply a dog. He became family.

When something goes into his bowl every day, I want to understand not only what is in it, but also how it is stored, protected and served.

That question became the starting point for FAM Pets.

When I started adding fish oil to Steven’s food, I chose what I believed was a quality product in a traditional pump bottle.

At first, he ate it without hesitation. But after a while, he seemed less interested in his food whenever the fish oil was added.

I kept wondering why. I was buying a quality supplement, so what was changing after the bottle had been opened and used day after day?

The more I paid attention, the more questions I had. Outside air could enter the bottle as oil was dispensed. The pump could drip, and the oil did not always spread evenly across his food. I began wondering how well the remaining oil was protected between servings.

I could not say packaging was the only reason Steven lost interest. But the experience made me realize that ingredient quality was only part of the story.

How a supplement is stored, protected and served matters too.

Many soft chews are stored loose together in one jar or pouch.

Each time the package is opened, every chew inside is exposed again to air, moisture and handling, even though only one or two may be needed that day.

Most pet supplement brands focus mainly on the ingredient list. Ingredients are important, but they are not the whole product experience.

A daily supplement may be used for weeks or months after opening. The packaging continues doing its job long after the product leaves the factory. We believed that deserved more attention.

Traditional fish oil pumps may allow outside air into the bottle as product is dispensed. Loose soft chews are repeatedly exposed whenever their container is opened. Travel servings often require carrying a full bottle, measuring the product or dealing with spills.

These may seem like small inconveniences, but they happen every day.

We wanted to rethink the supplement around the full routine, not only the formula inside it.

I was born in Mongolia and trained as a mechanical engineer before continuing my education and career in the United States and Canada.

My background in engineering, business and operations taught me to look beyond marketing claims and examine how products actually work.

After leaving my corporate career, my wife and I operated a home-care business in Vancouver. That experience reinforced a lesson I had learned throughout my career: meaningful businesses identify real everyday problems and solve them with care and consistency.

After selling that business, I acquired a cooking-oil packaging facility in Richmond, British Columbia. Its packaging capabilities helped me see an opportunity to apply better delivery formats to pet wellness products.

Steven gave the idea its purpose. Packaging technology gave us a practical way to solve it. That became FAM Pets.

The pet wellness market already has many fish oils, probiotics and joint supplements. We did not want to create another product that looked and worked exactly like everything else on the shelf.

We wanted to solve the questions pet parents face after bringing a supplement home:
