What happens after you open the package?
Most pet supplements are tested and made with care. But a supplement is not used all at once. Your pet uses a little bit at a time, over days or weeks. Every time a package is opened, the ingredients inside are exposed to air. That is the moment this page is about. We built FAM Pets to think about freshness at every serving, not just on the day a product is made.

What oxygen does to fish oil over time
Fish oil contains fats that can slowly change when they touch air. This process is called oxidation. Over time, air contact can affect the smell, taste, and quality of fish oil. This is simply how fish oil behaves once air can reach it, in any brand. It is why we think about packaging as carefully as we think about ingredients.
According to general veterinary nutrition guidance, including guidance from sources such as the American Animal Hospital Association, fats in fish oil are sensitive to oxygen exposure over time. See Sources below.
How our fish oil stays fresh
Bag on Valve: an airless way to spray
FAM Pets fish oil uses a different design called Bag on Valve, or BoV. Inside the can, the oil sits in a separate inner bag. As you spray, the bag simply gets smaller. The oil stays inside an inner bag during dispensing, so outside air is not drawn in to touch the oil that is left.
This design is meant to help reduce repeated exposure between servings, so more of each spray is closer to how the oil started.
How our chews stay fresh
One wrapper. One chew. Sealed until serving.
Nitrogen flushing replaces some of the oxygen around the chew inside the packet before sealing. Nitrogen is an inert gas. The goal is to reduce oxygen around the chew while the wrapper remains sealed until serving.
Each FAM Pets chew is individually wrapped, so opening today's chew does not expose tomorrow's.
